Starfleet Intelligence Report - Sons of Charon
Designation: Political Party
Established: 2380
Founder: Jennings
Spectrum: Federation Nationalist
Status: Active
Active Seats: 2 (Minos Korva, Oralia II(Andorian Colony)), Numerous local seats spread across the Federation Core
Background: Formed from the merging of an offshoot portion of the New Essentialists and a surviving cell of the Maquis. The New Essesntialists quickly fell out of favor after the hostage situation on Risa took a wrong turn, which forced the group to operate underground. One of the surviving Maquis that managed to make it through the Dominion War began to settle on Minos Korva. Both groups saw the Federation as weak, especially during the more trying moments of the Dominion War. In the post-war political environment, both groups viewed the rush to aid the Cardassian Union as a moral outrage. Coming together on Minos Korva, the groups decided to pool their resources in order to become the agents of change to make a better, more strong Federation. The formed the Sons of Cheron. The group's name is in rememberance of the final battle of the Earth-Romulan War, where the alliance that became the Federation made it's stand and truly became a quadrant power.
Idealology: The Sons of Charon laid their foundation on the ideals of a strong Federation that takes a hardline stance on the Federation's enemies. Merging the New Essentialist idea that the Federation had become too decadent to hold its own with the Maquis pechant for independence and anger over the Federation giving up its territory as part of the treaty to end the Cardassian Border Wars, the Sons were born. Their beliefs state that the Federation needs to focus on make itself strong, to rebuild its worlds and colonies damaged in the Dominion War, and to build up the Federation's capacity and effectiveness at war.
Activities: The Sons of Charon (SoC) function as a highly funded grass roots political organization. They focus on recruiting those frustrated about the current state of the Federation, Starfleet personel, and the disenfranchised. Their members and supporters have become a common in the Federation's longest serving worlds as well as the vulnerable colonies along the frontier regions. Efforts to monitor this political party have been increased as of late. Their funding has been called into question on a number of occasions, with little to no reply. There has also been an uptick in violence and protests against non-Federation interests in regions where the SoC has been most active.
